Referred by a friend…Upper Bloem by Sisanda Vena

Sister restaurant to La Mouette, Upper Bloem was warmly welcomed to Cape Town’s food scene in 2017. Inspired by Head Chef Andre Hill’s nostalgia surrounding his childhood in Bo-Kaap (Upper Bloem Street to be exact), his menu interprets Cape Town’s cuisine and provides an amazing experience for visitors and locals alike – here’s what Sisanda, our Sales & Marketing Coordinator has to say about it.

A vibrant, beautifully decorated dining area offers full view of an open kitchen, so you can watch the action unfold. You would expect it to be somewhat noisy but it’s such a well-oiled machine – while you certainly can’t help but watch the focused chefs at work, you can hardly hear them at all.

Sisanda’s advice: Definitely have the wine pairing, they get this so right! If you enjoy a great dessert and love surprises go for their ‘’Caramelia toffee apple and nut cluster’’.

It’s a tapas-style shared menu and each course has three seasonally-inspired items, so there’s no choosing what you want and you get a taste of everything. They cater to dietaries and the portions are perfect. The food was wonderful with Andre’s Cape Malay routes evident in little twists.
