Suikerbossie Mountain Hike by Karien Bendle-Bothma.

Cape Town is a city that lives in unison with nature and we are spoilt for choice when planning an escape out of town and into the wilderness. From beaches to trail runs and off-road cycling to fishing – the list is endless and all on our doorstep.

An absolute must-do experience for all visitors to Cape Town is a hike on Suikerbossie Mountain (only a short 15min drive from Ellerman House). Not only is it a fairly easy hike, but it also leads to one of Cape Town’s best hidden sunset spots.

After 20min of hiking, you will pop over the saddle of the mountain. Your reward is a breathtaking view over Llundudno in front of you and a glorious view across Hout Bay behind you. The West-facing hill slope creates a natural amphitheater for you to watch the greatest show on earth.

Ask reception to arrange some snacks and drinks from the kitchen for you to enjoy at the top and remember a jacket, because the wind can be unpredictable.

My little tip: Don’t wait too long before coming down as it turns dark in the blink of an eye.
