Meet Ailsa Burns, our Reservations Manager, who has been part of the team for over 15 years. When asked why she loves working at Ellerman House she said, “The owners, the staff and the sense of belonging that it gives you. The passion makes Ellerman unique. Everyone is so proud to be here”. What is your motto? Live life to the fullest, with no regrets.

What do you love most about Cape Town? The beauty that surrounds us and that we can live our days outside as much as possible. The vibrancy of South Africa and the ever-changing environment in which we live.

Who inspires you most? My mother, she never gives up on anything she wants to achieve.

Your perfect day off? A relaxing morning walk on the beach with the dog, followed by a lunch at a Constantia wine farm, ending with a lovely braai surrounded by friends.

What do you consider your greatest achievement to be? To get my health and life back on track and to stay there.

What is your favourite hidden gem? Cheyne’s in Hout Bay.

What could you never do without? Coffee – the only way to start a morning.

What do you aspire to learn more about? Photography. It is a passion that I have and am always wanting to learn new ways of doing it.

Which historical figure do you respect the most? The Dalai Lama – his ability to forgive and to always remain calm.

What is your idea of perfect happiness? Can it ever be achieved…Each day my idea of perfect happiness changes. I think you need to just love what is with you at that time to be happy.

What is your favourite book/movie of all time? The Magic Faraway Tree. My favourite childhood book that brought my imagination to life.

What keeps you busy outside of work? Bird photography, watching cricket, running and spending time with friends.

What do you value most in your colleagues? Hard work and passion for the property.

What is your favourite spot at Ellerman House? The gardens in the morning, a quiet area to reflect on the day ahead.

What do you think makes it the best hotel in the world? The staff. The smiles and caring nature of everyone that makes you feel like the king of the world.
